2. Cloudburst in Uttarakhand
A massive cloudburst occurred in the Chamoli region of Uttarakhand on morning of 8th May triggering landslides and heavy rainfall. Tharali-Dewal road remains closed due to debris. Badrinath national highway is blocked at Karnaprayag and Maithana due to landslides while Pokhari-Karanprayag road is also closed at many points.
3. Opening dates for the Char-Dham temple shrines 2016
- Gangotri - 9th May 2016
- Yamunotri - 9th May 2016
- Kedarnath - 9th May 2016
- Badrinath - 11th May 2016 (due to a cloudburst and landslides in the region)
Note: The shrines remain closed for a period of 6 months, generally, starting from the sacred day of Diwali to April/May next year.
